Q. Can I use my Visio drawings to generate a list of equipment ?

A. Yes, Visio   has a built-in add-on tool called 'Shape Report'.  This can be used to export a list of equipment to a document, along with the price and description if you wish.  To do this, simply add data to each symbol (select 'Format' menu,  'Special' and type in data fields). Then select your shapes on the drawing page and select 'Shape Report' from the 'Tools' menu.  Then choose either copy to clipboard (to paste into another document) or save as a text file.  Go to the 'Select' button, then highlight the fields you want and click 'Add'. Then 'OK'.   You will need to open the file and set the data in a table.  Then you have a full list that can then be printed out and sent to customers along with the drawing. Visio 5 has a similar function under the 'Shape report' tool on the tools menu.

Q. On PC VCR how much disk space will be taken up by the captured images when recording ?

A. The amount of space taken up will depend on three things, Video window size,Picture quality and how often a picture is stored (update rate). The table below shows some example storage sizes for both mono and colour cameras.

This table can only be an approxamation of storage requirements. As different camera views,
video compression codecs and vido capture cards can increase or decrease the storage size.

Q. On PC Multiplexer how much disk space will be taken up by the captured images when recording ?

Q. I have 4 cameras and I would like to record them to my hard-disk on an alarm trigger, how can I do it ?

A.
Option 1
You could use PC VCR with a 4-way video switcher. You would need to wire your 4 alarm triggers assigned to the cameras into the video switcher, and from the video switcher you would wire the alarm lead supplied with PC VCR into the PC.

Option 2
You could use PC Multiplexer, which in it's most basic form, has 4 camera inputs and 5 alarm inputs. You would need to wire your alarm triggers onto the optional alarm lead that can be supplied with PC Multiplexer. Each alarm input can be independently configured in the software, to record the cameras that you specify.
